57 Dominican Republic companies present in FITUR

Photo: TTC The Dominican Republic was present with 57 national companies in the 40th international tourism fair FITUR, from January 22 to 26, 2020, where its tourism leadership in the Caribbean was reaffirmed. The Dominican delegation headed by Tourism minister Francisco Javier García, who said that this scenario is a platform to reinforce the work done by the institution so that more European tourists visit this country. “The Ministry of Tourism works hard to continue being the leader of tourism in the Caribbean. Point of view: More than 620,000 Cubans living abroad visited the country in 2019

Cuba received a tourism award in China

Photo: TTC Cuba received an award in China as a high-potential tourist destination, due to its growing prestige in the sector. Cuban Consul in Shanghai Nestor Torres received the prize, granted by the specialized magazine Travelling Scope in the 2019 edition of its Stars Awards. The publication, which was founded more than 30 years ago, is one of the main magazines of its kind in China and is distributed nationwide. Torres told Prensa Latina that the award is an important acknowledgement of Cuba’s tourism sector, where new hotels have been built, attractions have been diversified and growth is expected in 2020. It’s official: New year’s message from acting Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization

Bridgentown, Barbados.– If we were to stop and reflect on this year as it comes to a close, we would most likely describe 2019 as a varied year, which both highlighted the strengths in Caribbean tourism and its inherent weaknesses. The sector’s strengths were evident in the significant growth rates experienced by most Caribbean countries. Despite contraction in some larger destinations, such as Cuba and the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean experienced an overall 6.1% level of growth in visitor arrivals during the first nine months of the year. It is noteworthy that the growth rates of those countries affected by the 2017 hurricanes were substantial, in some cases up to triple-digit levels. This level of recovery speaks volumes about the commitment of the Caribbean to this industry which has become the lifeblood of several countries.
