St Kitts-Nevis and Colombia to Strengthen Bi-Lateral Relations

Basseterre, St Kitts.- Luis Guillermo Martinez-Fernandez, new Colombian ambassador to St Kitts, and Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas have fuelled the hopes of both countries of cooperating in the interdiction of the drug trade as well as in tourism, including the upcoming regional tourism meeting.

Colombia holds the secretary-general position of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) since February, 2012. Since then, the South American nation has made it clear that strengthening bilateral relations with St Kitts and Nevis was top on its foreign affairs agenda.

While Colombia offered to cooperate with the federation in the area of security, St Kitts and Nevis expressed hope for cooperation in food security and nutrition, small and medium sized enterprises, disaster mitigation, technical and vocational education, bilingualism, ICT, renewable energy and telemedicine.
