A further step towards the accessibility of tourism has just been taken thanks to a group of activists and designers who have developed a system that can allow passengers to get on board with their wheelchair, without affecting the aircraft’s seating configuration.

The innovation, dubbed Air 4 All and developed by PriestmanGoode, Flying Disabled and SWS Certification, allows the aircraft’s front seat to be folded down and includes a guiding and locking system to secure the wheelchair to the aircraft, Tourinews reported.

Implementing this innovation would make getting on the plane less complicated for people with reduced mobility.

Currently, to be able to enter the cabin, they have to leave their wheelchair in the hold —with the possibility of its being damaged— and, in addition, they depend on the PMR personnel who are in charge of helping them to position themselves in the designated seat.
