Jamaican tourism officials are striking an optimistic chord about the destination’s potential recovery once the global coronavirus situation is has been brought under control.

Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, stressed that “a new approach” will be needed to rebuild the tourism industry after the global pandemic.

He has not forgotten to refer to the need for stimulus packages and aid to rescue the tourism sector, ‘to recover as quickly as possible after this crisis.’

For his part, in local media, Omar Robinson, president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association, wanted to point out that the tourism industry and the Jamaican government must accelerate ‘negotiations to help organizations overcome this situation.’

The revival of tourism will be linked to how Jamaica’s largest source markets, such as the one received from the United States, can control the pandemic.
