Between January and July, five million tourists arrived in Mexico by air

During the first seven months of this year, five million seven thousand international tourists arrived in the country by air, which represents a decrease of six million 780 thousand travelers compared to the same period of 2019, equivalent to minus 57.5 percent, reported today the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

He specified that the ten nationalities with the highest arrivals by plane in this period January-July 2020 added four million 336 thousand tourists, five million 730 thousand less than in the same period last year, representing a decrease of 56.9 percent and a market share of 86.6 percent:

The United States, with two million 770 thousand tourists, three million 877 thousand fewer travelers, equivalent to a decrease of 55.3 percent.

Canada, 889 thousand 497 tourists, with a decrease of 631 thousand 898 and minus 41.5 percent.

Colombia, 119 thousand 19 tourists, 208 thousand 182 less and a decrease of 63.6 percent.

France, 90 thousand 983, 94 thousand less and a decrease of 51.1 percent.

Brazil, 89,791 tourists, 148,546 fewer and a decrease of 62.3 percent.

United Kingdom, 88 thousand 386 tourists, 250 thousand 386 less and a decrease of 73.9 percent.

Argentina, 86 thousand 768 tourists, 175 thousand 725 less and a decrease of 66.9 percent.

Spain, 69 thousand 417 tourists, 143 thousand 680 less and a drop of 67.4 percent.

Peru, 66 thousand 323 tourists, 97 thousand 229 less, equivalent to a decrease of 59.4 percent.And, finally, Germany, which registered an arrival of 66,284 tourists, 102,253 fewer travelers, which means a decrease of 60.7 percent in the reference period.

The rest of nationalities counted 670 thousand 429 tourists, one million 50 thousand less and a decrease of 61 percent, with a market share of 13.4 percent.

The head of Sectur indicated that the five airports with the highest arrival of international tourists in the period January-July 2020, added four million 483 thousand travelers, six million 231 thousand less than in the same period of 2019, equivalent to less 58.2 per percent and a market share of 89.5 percent:

Two million 43 thousand tourists arrived in Cancun, two million 945 thousand less than in the first seven months of last year, which means a decrease of 59 percent and a market share of 40.8 percent.

In Mexico City, the arrival of one million 107 thousand tourists was registered, one million 837 thousand less, with a decrease of 62.4 percent and a market share of 22.1 percent.

In Puerto Vallarta, 513 thousand 332 tourists landed, 487 thousand 353 less, with a decrease of 48.7 percent and a market share of 10.3 percent.

496,215 tourists arrived at the Los Cabos airport, 625,101 less, with a decrease of 55.7 percent and a market share of 9.9 percent.

Finally, 323 thousand 696 tourists arrived in Guadalajara, 336 thousand 816 less than in the same period of 2019, which means a decrease of 51 percent and a market share of 6.5 percent.

Finally, Secretary Torruco Marqués pointed out that 523 thousand 474 tourists arrived at the rest of the country’s airports, 548 thousand 848 fewer travelers, thus registering a decrease of 51.2 percent and obtaining a market share of 10.5 percent.
