Known as the heart of the Mayan world, this nation could be a paradise for those seeking to participate in a voyage of discovery based on multiple aspects, either biodiversity or history and archeology; an experience of immersion in the very origins of the culture that still endures in this region of the world.

Full of archaeological treasures, this country has ancient cities and large parks and pre-Columbian sites, where travelers will be able to appreciate the footprint of the first inhabitants of the Latin American continent. The Tikal National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979, stands out among these sites for its historical value.

The biodiversity of the Guatemalan nation allows it to have more than 300 microclimates, more than 30 volcanoes, as well as lakes, cenotes, underground rivers, waterfalls… ideal for lovers of trekking, camping and adventure.

In this segment of travel experiences, San Juan La Laguna, a charming town surrounded by mountains located on the shore of Lake Atitlán, stands out. Likewise, the exuberant tropical forest of Chisec, in Alta Verapaz, allows the most daring to experience moments of pure adrenaline when entering its caves and making rapid descents on exciting rappelling or tube routes.

From this month of November until April, Guatemala receives the humpback whales, which circle its beaches on the Pacific coast. In the village of Las Lisas, in Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa — 160 kilometers from the capital — travelers will be able to enjoy this privilege; although the months of February and March are the most propitious to contemplate this gift of nature.

But Guatemala is also a destination for cruise ships. With the arrival of the Celebrity Millennium to the Marina Pez Vela terminal, in Puerto Quetzal, the country began the cruise season, which allows visitors from all over the world to get to know the natural and cultural wonders of this Central American destination for a period of 10 to 14 hours, and by the way promise a longer return.

And for those who prefer more relaxed activities, they will find in Playa Blanca the perfect place to recharge their batteries, or perhaps that love nook to share with the loved one. By the way, the Romantic Guatemala event can be very useful for those who choose this land to celebrate love.

According to data provided by the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), as of September 30 of this year the country had received 402,254 international visitors, which has generated $255 million in foreign currency.

In keeping with the spirit of tourist reactivation that exists throughout the Latin American and Caribbean region, Guatemala is not far behind and continues to work to make this destination one of the most attractive in Central America, and for it to achieve together with it generating wealth in the communities and the improvement of the quality of life of those who inhabit the lands and waters in which the Mayan world once flourished in all its splendor.
