For a More Ecological Cruise Industry
The members of the Global Travel Association Coalition (GTAC) reiterated the tourist sector’s commitment to contribute to the struggle against climate change, for which it is planning to introduce initiatives that make the cruise industry more ecological.

They include the construction of new ships with standards that point to energy efficiency with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030; using special lighting to reduce up to 20% of power consumption; painting the ship hulls with special material to reduce fuel consumption by 5%.

The tourist sector represents almost 10% of the world Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates one out of every seven job posts worldwide.

David Scowsill, president and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), in his role as president of the GTAC, affirmed that the organization has a great responsibility and that they must ensure that the sector’s growth not be dissociated from its effects on the environment to guarantee that tourism continues contributing to long-term inclusion and socioeconomic development.
