Musicians from 10 countries will come together in Cuba during the 32nd edition of Jazz Plaza International Festival, one of the main events in Latin America, to be held on December 15-18 and, as usual, it includes jam sessions, exhibits, academic meetings and concerts.
The list of guests to this event, with Paradiso as the official inbound agency, Artex S.A.’s Cultural Tourism agency, includes U.S. Terence Blanchard’s E-Collective, to perform with Cuban Chucho Valdes; The Snarky Puppy and Christian McBride Trio, also from the United States; and African Fatoumata Diawara, who will be sharing stage with Cuban Roberto Fonseca.
Other international visitors are going to arrive in from Jamaica, Third World; Sweden, Stefan Jonson; Colombia, Michel y su grupo de Latin Jazz; Canada, Doug Martin; Austria, Michaela Rabitsch Cuarteto; Virgin Islands, Dion Parson & 21th Century Band; and Argentina, Supernova Jazz Trio, among others.
Arturo O’Farrill, The Family Laws, Rachel Flowers, TK Band, Jazz Latino Millikin University, Randy Weston and Chapman Roberts will come from the United States.
This is going to be the first time the festival tees off at the eastern Santiago de Cuba province, described as the country’s second capital city and, according to the organizers of Jazz Plaza, it features a jazz movement that is worth to be shown to the world.
Havana is also going to host this meeting for enthusiasts of the genre, which was created back in 1980 by 2012 National Music Award winner Bobby Carcasses.
According to the program, both cities will have an honorable president: maestro Chucho Valdes at the Cuban capital and Roberto Fonseca in Santiago de Cuba.
