During the closing ceremony it was announced that the 2018 edition will be held in Cayo Santa María, Villa Clara, in the center of the country, a paradise of sun and beach, which is why that modality will be the fair’s protagonist. Meanwhile, the country guest of honor will be the United Kingdom.
More than 2,600 professionals from 41 countries and more than 170 journalists participated in the 37th edition of Cuba’s International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2017), an event that met the expectations of organizers and participants by becoming a fruitful meeting in which new business opportunities were agreed upon and the attractions of the Cuban tourist product were made known, especially of the eastern part of the country.
Dedicated to Germany as guest of honor country and to the circuits product, the fair had an intense program of presentations and negotiations, in addition to visits to the principal tourist sites of the province of Holguín, venue of the event whose principal scenario was the Playa Pesquero Hotel, of the Gaviota Tourism Group.
The highlight of the activity was the launching of Gibara as a tourist destination in which a new hotel was inaugurated as well as other installations that enrich the offer of the so-called Villa Blanca. A great deal of the guests, among them the specialized press, also participated in the inauguration of the Romerias de Mayo international festival, a major cultural celebration for which Holguín is distinguished.
In addition, in the context of the fair letters of intent were signed between the Cuba Golf S.A. enterprise and Chinese and German companies to start the negotiations for the creation of joint ventures for the construction, development and exploitation of tourist real estate complexes.
Also of news interest was the association of Meliá Hotels International with the Gran Caribe and Islazul hotel groups for the management of new hotels in the Cienfuegos, Camagüey and Trinidad destinations.
During the opening day of FITCuba 2017 the arrival of two million tourists up to date with 39 days ahead with respect to 2016 was announced by Minister of Tourism Manuel Marrero.
In his keynote speech the minister highlighted the intention of raising the quality of the tourist offer and services, and he highlighted the high levels of satisfaction shown by the visitors. He also referred to the principal development projects related to the hotel plant as well as the non-hotel sector which will make it possible to expand the infrastructures to guarantee the backing to the growing demand of the Cuba destination, which in 2016 received more than four million tourists and expects to close the current year with a higher number.
