Since 2016, Chile has positioned itself as the winner and the recognition highlights the country’s qualities as the best in the world for the practice of this type of tourism, closely linked to Chile’s extraordinary nature throughout its entire territory, the Chilean newspaper El Mostrador stressed.

The World Travel Award chose Chile, for the sixth time in a row, as the best country to enjoy adventure tourism, surpassing countries such as Australia, Canada, Ecuador, New Zealand, Japan, among others.

This recognition is by popular vote and is known as the “Tourism Oscars,” due to the importance they have had in the world of tourism since 1933.

One of the characteristics that highlights the country to be worthy of the award are the varied landscapes, environments and the different territories that Chile presents due to its geographical characteristics.

For Undersecretary of Tourism José Luis Uriarte, “being once again the world champions of adventure tourism fills us with pride, joy, enthusiasm and commitment to the reactivation of tourism in our country, an economic sector so important and necessary for thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises that give life to tourism in Chile and for hundreds of localities that have made tourism their main activity.”

The official assured that “this award encourages us to continue working to maintain and consolidate our world leadership in an area of tourism that looks to the future, which is directly linked to our rich nature and which allows us to develop a sustainable and responsible tourism activity with our natural heritage.”
