Aruba, known as the “happy island,” has even more reasons to be so these days: it has achieved herd immunity with more than 70 percent of the population vaccinated. The goal achieved puts this beautiful corner of the Caribbean in an advantageous position in the face of the reactivation of tourism in the region.

Famous for its beautiful beaches and perfect climate, Aruba offers those who venture to explore it a variety of activities, whether seeking a moment of tranquility, excitement and adventure, living cultural experiences or enjoying the perfect romantic getaway.

This 180-square-kilometer island opted for tourism since the late 1980s, when it changed the oil industry for that of travel and leisure, a product that currently contributes the highest percentage of its gross domestic product (GDP).

Several decades later, reality has shown the success of the risky bet, since the decision brought large investors from the hotel industry to the country, increased the demand for construction and created thousands of jobs for the local population; not to mention that it became a benchmark for travelers from all over the world in search of sun and sea.

Being part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and having inherited customs, language and even the passport, the island is one of the favorite destinations for many European tourists.

Due to the scarcity of rain and the arid terrain that characterizes the island, its agricultural possibilities are limited. However, there are aloe crops, a reference in the world cosmetic industry, as well as livestock and fishing activities that contribute to the national economy.

Despite the fact that COVID-19 continues, Aruba is a safe destination, as it is close to reaching the threshold of herd immunity and also reports a very low rate of infections. A dream island that is worth discovering now that travel is returning to the Caribbean.
