The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) carried out the voting to find out which are the new tourism industry entities that will join the international organization as affiliate members, Reportur reported.

The Argentine Chamber of Tourism (CAT) was the most voted entity in the region and was elected to represent the Americas in the Board of Directors of Affiliate Members of the UNWTO for the period 2022-2025.

George Washington University (United States) was the second most voted in the region; while for Europe the Croatian National Tourist Board (Croatia) and Red Estable (Spain) were elected. Two representatives from East Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and South Asia were also elected. In the case of Africa, only one entity was selected.

The UNWTO Affiliate Members Department brings together more than 500 companies, teaching and research institutions, destinations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and offers them a space to engage in dialogue, share information and undertake new actions.

Its main mission is to foster synergies between Affiliate Members and Member States and promote the exchange of knowledge between key agents, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As reported by REPORTUR.com.ar, at the last UNWTO General Assembly, which was held in Madrid, the establishment of a UNWTO regional office in Argentina was approved.
