Barbados: Tourism is the best product to sell to China
Bridgetown.- Barbadian ambassador to Peking, Sir Allan Fields, says Tourism is Barbados ‘best bet to penetrate the Chinese market but "even that will be a challenge".
Fields added that Barbados prepares to establish a permanent mission in China, the world's fastest growing economy. "Tourism is a possibility because Barbados is one of the favored nations that Chinese can legitimately visit, especially for those Chinese who are looking for somewhere different to go"
Fields opinion is that "however, it's a long distance and it would be expensive, so those who travel would prefer to go to the [United] States or Europe."
Marketing Barbados as a tourism destination in China would require a lot of money and focus, which could otherwise be used in reinforcing the Barbados brand in the established tourism-generating countries in North America and Europe, the ambassador said. (Source: Barbadian press)
