Sport tourism against Crisis in Barbados
Bridgetown. - Barbadian Minister of Tourism Richard Seal said Sports tourism is one way Barbados "can ride through these turbulent economic times" and announced that Government has given the assurance that this is an area that will continually receive support, if the product is of world-class quality."It is evident that champions go where the quality is best," Sealy said. "Government has increased its support for (Sol Rally Barbados) this year... We will increase it for next year, if you continue to improve in this manner", added.
"Last year, when I was at the launch of this event, there was a fraction of the number of people I see here tonight. We have actually seen growth. It is also extremely encouraging to see the increase in overseas participation as well", said the Minister.
Sealy suggested that, looking at the numbers of those gathered, especially the number of international crews, one would doubt if the world was in the midst of one of the worse recessions seen in decades. He suggested that Barbados was well positioned to take advantage of this specialized event. (Source: Daily Nation)
