Barbados to Target Finns as Potential Tourists
Bridgetown. - Finland could soon be among Barbados’ strongest markets if negotiations between the two countries to enhance bilateral cooperation succeed upon opening Finland's new consulate in the Caribbean island. In addition to tourism and investment, Barbados hopes to establish cooperation links in such areas as education, labour policies, marine environment, energy and alternative energies. Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxine McClean stated that the two countries “could co-operate in the future to the mutual benefits”.
At a reception at the new consulate, at the Trident Insurance Building, Hastings Main Road, McClean said that a double taxation agreement between Finland and Barbados “has attracted some Finnish business interests as well as wider international interests to Barbados to take advantage of the treaty”, which he considered one of the most important steps in bilateral relations.
