Barbados: Consumers beneficiaries of reduced fuel prices

Georgetown. The Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce has been working with several transportation associations to ensure that consumers are the beneficiaries of reduced.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad convened a meeting with President of the Bartica/Parika Speedboat Owners Association, Christopher Bell and other members to discuss a reduction in this fare. Minister Prashad announced that, “With immediate effect from January 1, the price for transportation between Parika and Bartica will come down from $2000 to $1900 per crossing.” He added that while this initiative is welcomed, discussions are ongoing for the fare to revert to $1800 prior to the rise in fuel prices earlier in the year, quoted local press.
Minister Prashad noted that the price of gasoline needs to be sorted out in Bartica as it is being sold at $860 at the GUYOIL pump while around the country this has been reduced to $555. “The price per gallon of gas in Bartica has only dropped to $860 which I find very strange,” the Minister said.
